TA Criterium crankset 170 mm NOS Ital BB.I bought this crankset when I had my bike shop, Cycle Dynamics, in Novato in 1981 from a friend that had them for years...I believe this crank was made in the late 1960’s, as it has the cover plates on the back of the thread hole for short pedal axle. ( if you use a longer thread pedal, you’ll pop the cover plate out). The TA Criterium rings are drilled further out the chainrings than the tourist series, the 6 bolts holding the inner chainring further out stiffen the two chainrings from wobbling side to side substantially. This set up is also common on some racing tandems. The bottom bracket TA cups with no rings around the hole are Italian thread. There is a package of six fixing bolts and washer not pictured that attach the chainring to the crank... While cleaning them up, I smeared one of the foil decals...a friend is sending me a new pair...you’ll note some oxidation on the right crank arm? The left had a tiny bit also, and wiping it down after polishing it took the color from the decal...I plan on polishing up the right crank as well...a polished Metax SS I put together won the NAHBS show in 2006, I love polishing parts and I think these, when done, will be absolutely stunning...the decals are on the way but haven’t arrived yet... if you win the auction for these cranks, I think my delivery time will be about three weeks... aren’t these gorgeous? I’ve looked them and thought about what I’d like to do with them for years...but in your 70’s, which I am, reality can be a different thing...I don’t ride my bike 7 days a week anymore....
I have both English and French TA bb cups and appropriate spindles as well…
